2. When I buy photos do I get the actual prints sent to me?
No. Klixus only sells the
photo file for you to download. We do not print photos and send them to you. Once you download the photo, you can print it on your photo printer at home, develop it online with any of the online photo developing stores, or take the photo to a photo developer storefront near you. Some transfer options include: burning the photo to a CD or DVD, transferring the file to a flash drive, or seeing if you can email them the photo.
3. Will the photo I buy have a watermark?
No. The photos you buy do not show the Klixus logo or the photographer's name.
4. When I go to the Checkout there are already photos in my cart. Why?
If somebody has been using the same computer as you and adding photos to the shopping cart, then these will remain there until either: they are purchased, their session has timed out, or until someone clicks on 'Empty Cart'.
5. Help! I clicked 'Go to Checkout' but nothing happens!
Make sure you have ticked the size of the photo that you want to purchase. To the right of the photo, under the word 'Purchase' there is a tick box that you must tick. Just select the photo size and proceed with your order.
6. Help! I clicked 'Pay Now' but nothing happens!
Make sure you have entered an email address into the first field. After purchasing your photo you will be sent an email with a link which allows you to download the photos for up to a month from your purchase.
7. Why do I need to tick this box that says I live outside Australia?
Photos purchased from overseas do not incur the Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST). Ticking this box and providing your overseas residential address will reduce the purchase price by the GST amount.
8. I paid for the photo, how do I download it?
If you made your payment with your PayPal account, you will be automatically directed to the photo download page. Just click on the link next to the photo to save the photo to your computer. If all else fails, please email us. Click on 'Contact Us' in the bottom menu to view our email details.
10. I want to buy a larger photo but I can only purchase the 4 x 6 inch photo. Why?
It could be two reasons:
- The photo uploaded to us might not have been of a high enough resolution to be able to sell at a bigger size; or
- Due to storage constraints, we only store large photo files for a period of 3 months. After this time, only the 4 x 6 inch photo is available for purchase. If it is more than 3 months since the photos were uploaded, we recommend that you contact the photographer who took the photo to see if they retained a larger version of the image.
11. How much does it cost for photos?
We have four different sizes you can purchase the photo at: 4 x 6 inch, 5 x 7 inch, 8 x 10 inch, 16 x 20 inch. The prices start as low as $2.20 AUD (includes GST), or $2.00 AUD if buying from overseas. The maximum price is $13.20 AUD (or $12.00 AUD without GST).
12. Why does the group get part of the photo commission? And why does it vary?
Klixus is not an ordinary photo sharing website. Klixus was designed as a website to help groups to grow in our community (as well as helping photographers). One of the best ways we can help groups is to help them raise funds. That's why groups can earn up to 85% commission on all photos sold.
Groups receive higher commissions when they upload their own event photos, or when the photographer they hire donates part of their commission to the groups. There are many photographers who take photos because they love doing it, not for the money!
13. Will a 4 x 6 inch photo be ok to print on 4 x 6 inch photo paper?
The pixel resolution of the 4 x 6 inch photos (and therefore their printing quality) is dependent on the photos uploaded to our site by the photographer or groups. If they did not use a high pixel resolution setting on their camera, then the photo they upload to our site will not print well at the 4 x 6 inch size. The group or photographer that uploads the photo is responsible for uploading photos that are suitable to be printed in good quality at the 4 x 6 inch photo size.
To get a good quality print for a 4 x 6 inch photo, the minimum pixel resolution needs to be about 800 x 1200 pixels (200 dpi). A high quality print would need about 1200 x 1800 (300 dpi).
14. Will a 4 x 6 inch photo be ok to print on 5 x 7 inch photo paper?
No. Each photo size is set to its ideal resolution. If you try to enlarge a smaller photo it will result in reduction of picture quality. The photo will appear grainy.
15. Do I obtain the copyright when I purchase the photo?
No, the copyright ownership always stays with the photographer. By purchasing a photo you acquire a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, non-transferable, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use purchased photos for personal use only. In simple terms, this means you can only use the photo for personal use only. 'Personal use' means you can:
- print the photo at home or at a photo developer storefront and display it for non-commercial purposes
- use the photo on personal web pages, such as social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace
- use the photo on greeting cards, or other items intended for personal non-commercial use, or
- use the photo as a screensaver or wallpaper on your personal computer, or other use for personal enjoyment.
If you want to be able to use the photo for non-personal use, then you must contact the photographer directly and ask them to grant you a licence to use it in this way. Sometimes photographers may sell you this licence, and sometimes it might be for free! It doesn't hurt to ask!
Note: If you commit a copyright violation or use the photo in a way that is not allowed, you may be subject to direct legal action by the copyright owner.
16. What methods of payment do you accept?
When you purchase photos, you can use the PayPal payment facility to pay with your credit card or with your PayPal account. You do not need to register a PayPal account if you want to just pay with your credit card.
17. I changed my mind, can I get a refund?
When purchasing photos, please consider your purchases carefully before confirming your order as no refunds are given.
18. I bought a 4 x 6 inch photo, but I'm not happy with its printing quality, can I get a refund?
No, unfortunately, the pixel resolution of the 4 x 6 inch photos (and therefore their printing quality) is dependent on the photos uploaded to our site by the photographer or groups.
A high quality print would need about 1200 x 1800 pixels (300 dpi).
19. How can I see a history of my photo purchases?
If you purchased your photos through your PayPal account then you can check your purchase history when you log into your PayPal account.
20. Our group has a photo voucher, how can we use it?
Remember: vouchers are event-specific, which means you can only use it for the event album that the photographer offered them on.
Just follow the normal process of choosing the photos you want to buy. Each voucher allows your group to receive five (5) free photo downloads, valued up to $66 when purchased at the 16 x 20 inch size. When you get to the checkout, just select the 16 x 20 inch size photos (if available) otherwise choose another photo size. Enter your voucher code in the top right of the screen. Click 'Go to Checkout' and click on 'Proceed'. You will be taken to the page for downloading your photos.
If you are also purchasing photos from another album (that is not linked to this voucher) you will need to follow the normal process of paying for these photos, either by credit card or with your PayPal account. You will then be taken to the page for downloading the photos which will include the free downloads and the recently purchased photos.
If you do not use all the five photos on the voucher, you can continue to the use the voucher on this album for your free downloads until all five photos have been 'purchased'.
21. Can we use the voucher for any event album, and can we exchange it for cash?
These vouchers are event-specific and non-transferable, which means you can only use it for the event album that the photographer offered them on. You cannot exchange these vouchers for cash.
22. I can't purchase the photo/s. There is no shopping trolley icon.
If you are purchasing photos from a group's page, it is possible that the photographer associated with this album has terminated their Klixus profile. As a result, these photos will no longer be available for purchase, only for viewing. We apologise for any inconvenience.
If you are trying to purchase photos from the Photographer's Favourites album, you cannot purchase these unless the photographer makes them available for sale. Photos that are available for sale will show the shopping trolley icon beneath it.
23. It says 'The photos for this album are currently unavailable', why?
The photographer has likely requested that this album be hidden while a dispute with the group is being resolved. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Photo Usage Answers
1. How are we allowed to use the photo?
For all watermarked or non-watermarked photos that you either download or purchase, you are granted a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, non-transferable, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use the photos for personal use only.
2. In what ways are we NOT ALLOWED TO USE the photo?
Basically you cannot use the photo unless you use it for personal use only; otherwise you can get into a lot of legal trouble!
What you CANNOT do with a downloaded photo:
- use the photo on a commercial, professional or your group's website
- use the photo in brochures, newsletters, publications, flyers
- create derivative works of the photo
- use the photo in whole or in part for commercial purposes
- create printed reproductions that you intend to sell or distribute
- license for use or distribute for reuse
- use in any way that is: unlawful, defamatory, obscene, pornographic or inflammatory, violates civil and criminal laws, could damage Klixus and the Site's reputation, infringes any trademark, logo, service mark or part thereof, infringes any rights of privacy or publicity, use in any way that might suggest that the subject matter of the photo endorses any product or service; modify, alter, or remove any watermark, trademark, logo or notice of copyright; disassemble, reverse engineer, or decompile any photo, or claim the photo as your own.
If you want to be able to use the photo for non-personal use, then you must contact the photographer directly and ask them to grant you a licence to use it in this way. Sometimes photographers may sell you this licence, and sometimes it might be for free! It doesn't hurt to ask!
IMPORTANT: If you commit a copyright violation or use the photo in a way that is not allowed, you may be subject to direct legal action by the copyright owner.
3. We want to use the photo commercially / on our website / in a flyer or brochure - how can we do this?
You need to contact the photographer directly and ask them to grant you a licence to use it in this way. Sometimes the photographer might charge you for this, but sometimes it may be for free. It doesn't hurt to ask!
4. Does the photo have a model or property release?
No, the photo does not come with a model or property release. If there is a recognisable person or building in the photo, you may need to get the permission of the person or the building's owner to use the photo. We cannot advise you of whether your desired use of the photo will need a release. You should obtain independent legal advice for this.
